Server transfer or complete merge

  • Working as an IT Specialist...hearing this talk about how this cant be done, that cant be done, this issue that issue, blah blah blah...

    Ok, let me just throw something out there.

    I work in the IT department for a MAJOR hospital, and you think that your server merge is complicated?!

    --Seriously?! No. This games database transfer would literally be a CAKE WALK in the park for my department and it's team...and depending on the type of database your servers are currently running...wellllll, then I could see the point, but the way you're all making it sound...no, you just don't want to do it.


    You gotta remember Gamigo, we, the, players, are, actually, educated!

    We're not ignorant drunken clowns who THINK they know the top notch of it all. Us Americans, Europeans, and Other Countries gamer's aren't 13 year old #HerpDerps with huge wallets to feed your dying game.

  • It looks like most of what I am saying is being misunderstood.

    The part where you say that its a brand new server just like last time, I just assumed that they deleted all guilds to keep it even, so my bad if that's the case. If even Isya got their guilds removed though I believe that's a sacrifice most people are willing to take.

    But seriously, I'm a system's engineer, and a server transfer/merge would be simple, it's just a matter of brainstorming ideas to not make complications regarding duplicate character/guild names, increasing character slots into on the character selection screen (you can re-do the interface to a list rather than having all your characters sitting around), and ensuring you know how premium items/in-game items are handled throughout the transfer.

  • But I think that is my point on the PvP. I do not see most of Isya or even a large amount of people going to FBZ to fight and dragging their guilds into it. There are some, but it is nothing major. And you hear about some minor squabbles over some world boss or another, but nothing like a real PvP server like Bijou.

    PvP Bijou that was common, the roars all day every day. The FBZ wars spilling into the open world in form of guild wars. The Isya PvP, is a small sample of the overall Isyan population, the PvP roars barely a dent in the overall chat.

    Even I walked into a few FBZ maps and did not die on Isya... quite pathetic.




    I also do not think people understand for the server merge, or transfer tools or anything new, it is not as simple as getting the department to just sit down and do it. They probably already have other things they are working on, hopefully more fixes, stability, general bugs, specially those quest bugs!, and possibly new content. They also have to balance in what will actually be good for the game, not just the few people who are asking for these things. What is better for the majority of players that will not upset the current stability of the game, versus what is wanted (not even what might be better for the few, because they may not actually know what is good for them) by the those few people.


    The reasons people want a transfer tool and/or server merge now, to me, just do not seem beneficial in any context, except for personal gain.

  • I'm not going to point fingers at certain "other" games but, some online games do have abilities to update fix/change some things like these ones below that SGM Kuroneko posted about and I filled in with some suggestions.

    - Name Clash- we have seen it here and in other games that allows us to hand over a transfer name coupon as well as letting it go with a merge. OR you can always try to make a cloud server with a group of servers as the base and than allow single characters to "transfer" for a few hours-days for fun before logging off back on their own "home" server. and that visiting character has a *@Enid to show that it's from the home server. thus there isn't any clashing.

    - Selection of Server since it will all be one 1 server (cloud based) it won't matter about selection of server but the other plan could be, allowing which character could be picked and than signed into the home server, like some games allow (home server to world servers (provided you want to visit in the group of servers) , or to Instances within maps that way it doesn't over fill. ( yes it means that everything must put onto a cloud online server and tooling the launcher system to work with the connections to cloud based server(s))

    - Automatic allocation if Server is not selected: in this one if we do stay with the idea of several servers than allowing to travel or visit means the "home server" lets that character jump to another server. as long as they do not interact with the economy of each server, nor bring over Gems to buy items and transfer items over to the "home server" it might help the communities to connect better. do raids + help questing etc, rather than having to automatically allocate the characters to it. if it's a single server than it's possible to just make layered lists of characters instead of the launcher system.

    - Overflow of characters and allocating them to an overflow account: like above you can easily create a list of characters to "summon" like certain games do. and than assign that character to sign in to the server itself. of course we'd have to have 2-3 summoning spots as well that way we're not killing computers by logging in 3 launchers too!

    - Database: most cloud based ones can be constantly online and the Dev's can do "live" changes all without turning off the servers. and when maintenances/patches are done simple add it at certain hours as usual.

    Fiesta is old, Fiesta has not many possibilities to change something

  • If gamigo had any intent in fixing/improving the game in a meaningful way, they would've done it already. Fiestas acquisition happened almost 5 years ago, thats enough time to create a new game from scratch and the game has still more flaws than anyone can count. Telling yourself the game doesn't allow for certain features is basically lying to yourself.

    But Gamigo surely will listen, we just need to hit 10 pages on this thread and the following ones every 2 months from now.

  • Fiesta is old and the engines it runs on has never been updated unlike other games which run on newer engines which are more easily updatable to newer technologies.


    They really would have to remake all of fiesta basically to overhaul the games systems. Which frankly to me would not be welcome if they completely make us start over, because i think they would have to do a lot of manual coding to copy everyones items/characters/money over to a new remake and I don't want my characters to poof just to update a system.

    The character database is separate from the game engine itself.

    What needs updating is the game engine, and upon updating it, should allow to read the old code (and new code), to allow players to keep their current character/SC/items etc, as well as improve the interface/performance of the game (making it more GPU bound than CPU bound to allow high performance PC's to take advantage of the game).


    No manual coding needs to be done to copy people's data, just create the code to read the old code.

    Very possible, but depending on the style of coding (considering this games engine is literally early 2000s)...This might not be feasible. I hate to say it, but we might be looking at a more cataclysmic clash with a merge given the "code debt" that we've been ohhh sooo quietly reading about here lately.


    IF one of us IT techies could actually poke around the server as a "Read-Only" guest and do a Remote Connection...Pretty sure i'd be able to differentiate what is what and HOW we could actually do this, with ease, and a matter of hours to at most 2 days tops.

    IF Gamigo has the "fortitude" to actually allow an IT team to poke around as View/Read Only guests on a remote connection ~ Pretty sure we'd be able to find the issues that we've all been screaming about for years with EASE! lmao!!!

    IF we had the ability to actually modify the current game files LEGIT-LIKE, and forward them for "analysis"...I'd laugh when our corrections or "discoveries" come back with "Oh, we already knew about this one...but changing it would clash with this causing a clash with that which results in a clash with...TL;DR"

    No, no algorithm. The Isya server is fine as it is, so if people from other servers want the merge to happen they should be the ones to automatically change their names.

  • well, not to point fingers at certain games but even old online games have updated their own servers. so there is possibility in it. 3rd companies have always done their part. and I believe in code debt. so I wouldn't turn away from that kind of thinking. just look another ancient game that is as old as fiesta, and how they fixed a transfer from one server to another, while changing from alliance to horde. (take notice that these are other games!) but those are helpful ways to get things done. like going cloud based servers to make it easier to merge without any issues and perhaps clear out old glitches/issues by streamlining the database code while they do they moved it to a cloud server.
